Calvados is a brandy made from apples. It is produced in the region of Calvados in Normandy, France. The apples grown here are picked carefully, ripened and crushed to remove the juice. The apple juice is then fermented and distilled twice to become calvados. Calvados is aged in oak casks, for a period of time, before being bottled and sold. The bottles are marked as follows to show you how long it has been aged: 3 Stars, 3 Apples - Minimum 2 years Vieux, Réserve - Minimum 3 years VO, Vieille Réserve, VSOP - Minimum 4 years Extra, XO, Naploean, Hors d'Age - Minimum 6 years Only apple brandy produced in the Calvados region (with apples grown in the region) can be called "Calvados". It is the best apple brandy on the market. It can be enjoyed straight up or straight up cold in a cognac glass.
