Evan Williams Bourbon has quite delicate aromas, with tingling spices, orange peel, dusty rye notes, lemon, anis. More biscuity with water. On the palate a gentle start, a salvo of spices, then the rye appears. Refined. Buttery fudge. Cocoa. Bitter chocolate. The fnish a hint of citrus. Cedary, sappy. A good heavy char in the oak? Contrives to be soothing and appetising. Spicy oak. I like this different, less overt, single barrel style. Yet another surprise in what is a hugely diverse and high quality range of whiskies. A lovely, voluptuous, after-dinner bourbon.
