Boon Framboise 75cl

Boon Framboise is a blend of old and young lambics (i.e. a gueuze) with added raspberries. It pours with a high-rise, pink fluffy head. Though obviously full of raspberries, the nose isn't sweet. A sherbety character is in the forefront, along with a characteristic sour smell, although this is subdued. In the mouth it is very fizzy, again with loads of raspberries (to the extent that you find yourself trying to pick the seeds out of your teeth) and more sherbet. The raspberries almost taste fresh - very unlike artificial raspberry flavouring. The faintest impression of wheat character is also evident - perhaps not so much a flavour as a texture. Boon Framboise is clean in the finish and the merest impression of sweetness round the edges. A good, clean, fruity version of the style comfortably ahead of your average commercial sweetened fruit lambic.
