Boon Framboise ( raspberry) 37.5cl

Boon Framboise is a blend of old and young lambics (i.e. a gueuze) with added raspberries. It pours with a high-rise, pink fluffy head. Though obviously full of raspberries, the nose isn't sweet. A sherbety character is in the forefront, along with a characteristic sour lambic smell, although this is subdued. Boon Framboise is very fizzy, again with loads of raspberries (to the extent that you find yourself trying to pick the seeds out of your teeth) and more sherbet. The raspberries almost taste fresh - very unlike artificial raspberry flavouring. The faintest impression of wheat character is also evident - perhaps not so much a flavour as a texture. Boon Framboise is clean in the finish, leaving little but a faint cloy and the merest impression of sweetness round the edges. A good, clean, fruity version of the style, though perhaps not terribly complex. Comfortably ahead of your average commercial sweetened fruit lambic, though.
