Duke of Clarence Madeira is made on the Portuguese-owned island of Madeira in the Atlantic Ocean, these wines are very sweet with rich honey, raisin and caramel flavours. Traditionally enjoyed with honey cake and biscuits, but ideal as dessert wines and best enjoyed with fresh tropical fruit and nuts. However, the depth of flavour combined with the natural high acidity of the wine means that they have the concentration and fullness to accompany even the very richest chocolate puddings. In warm weather, serve lightly chilled as a refreshing, palate cleansing finish to the meal. If you haven't had Madeira before you're in for a very pleasant surprise. Imagine mixing a jar of finest thick cut marmalade with a glass of honeyed dessert wine, up the alcohol content, then give it a curiously dryish finish. Naturally it's not something you drink by the gallon, but after a good dinner, and with some very smelly cheese, it's divine
