St. Feuillien Brune 33cl

St. Feuillien Brune has an incredibly nose - esters (pear drops) accompany the rest of the fruit bowl: oranges, lemons, grapes, apples, bananas - with some sherbet, and sloe gin hinting at the strength. St. Feuillien Brune tastes of treacle and bitter, lightly burnt woody overtones to the malt. The treacle, while not sweet, develops into a velvety cloying coat towards the finish, which is long, bitter and very fruity including figs and dates, and finally fades into caramelly malt long after the beer is swallowed. The malty bitterness, combined with the sweetening effect of the remarkably complex spectrum of fruit flavours, make this a very well-balanced example of an abbey-style brune. It is pleasantly and dangerously drinkable.
