Samuel Smiths Old Brewery Pale Ale 55cl

Sam Smiths Old Brewery Pale Ale is considered a reliable session beer. After a mildly hoppy and malty nose, the hops are clearly discernible on the palate, giving the beer a bitter taste rounded nicely by the mellowing sweetness of the malt. Hops are again present in the finish, along with a hint of vanilla. It's perhaps a little sweet, but less gassy (although still livelier than the draught version as carbon dioxide is added in the brewing process). Samuel Smith and his brother John both had breweries in Tadcaster - John Smith got taken over by Courage/Foster's but Sam stayed (and remains) independent.
