Samuel Smiths Barley Wine 180ml

Sam Smiths Barley Wine pours a light copper colour, with a white, bubbly head. The aroma is very fruity, with notes of lime, pineapple and melon. Alcohol is also evident in the manner of a fruity liqueur. Sam Smiths Barley Wine is initially sweetish, followed by bitter citrusy hops, with an accompanying spritzy fizz on the tongue and, an alcoholic warmth on the back of the throat. The malt becomes more apparent, too, as are Lime, mandarin oranges and light, syrupy malt are also present. Sam Smiths Barley Wine finish is similarly citrusy, leaving a lingering malty bitter-sweet coating on the tongue. However, on the whole it is surprisingly clean and refreshing for such a strong beer, and indeed it has a much lighter fruity character and less of a malt emphasis than many barley wines. All in all, delicious.
