Orkney Dark Island Ale 50cl

Dark Island Ale is a dark ruby-coloured malty beer from the Orkney Brewery. Big nose of roasted malts and chocolate malts with dark fruit. The flavours were quite enjoyable, roasted malt again up front followed by peat smoke, and fruity, but at the same time pleasantly dry and light. Fruit character is chiefly dark berries but there is also a hint of rose water. The malt also possesses subtle burnt notes and there is a touch of chocolate and then a long, distinct milk chocolate finish that coats the tongue. Very well-balanced and certainly not overpowering in any aspect. Medium to full bodied carbonation. Dark Island Ale best described as a complex but light, pleasant and drinkable Scotch ale.
