Grimbergen Blond 33cl (Abbey Ales)

Grimbergen Blonde is Brewed under licence by Alken-Maes for the Grimbergen abbey. The abbey's motto means 'burns but does not burn up', which is a historical reference to the fact that the place kept getting burned down but got rebuilt again. This is a strong blond beer, with a yeasty softness to the palate reminiscent of trappist beers and a tenacious, frothy head. It has a slightly hoppy aroma, which is less pronounced in the taste. It is quite sweet but not overpoweringly so, it has a certain depth to its taste, with a strong hint of vanilla in the aftertaste. Very drinkable, but not in quantity due to the strength. A complex and enjoyable Belgian ale, well worth rooting out.
