Okocim Mocne 50cl

Okocim Mocne pours innocently enough as a typically lager-like pale amber/straw colour, with a bubbly head that fades to a light coating. However, the nose gives the first clue to the strength, with a rich, honeyed bitter-sweet malt note peeking through what is otherwise a fairly hoppy, flowery, new-mown hay aroma. In the mouth Okocim Mocne strength is still apparent, but not overwhelmingly so, in the sweetish lager malt character, again hinting at bitter-sweet honey. However, this is well balanced by the hop bitterness, which is still very much present. Okocim Mocne finishes somewhat sweeter, with the honeyish malt gradually dominating the flavour, though the hops are still discernible. All in all a decent strong lager - although clues to the strength are there, it's still fairly light-tasting and steers well clear of the horrendously overdone sweetness and chemical notes so often found in mass-market strong lagers
