This is quite simply the godfather of Italian lagers, infact some bottles now come clad in an Armani suit with black tie. If you screw with this beer it will take out your family. Launched in 1996 to celebrate Peroni's 150th anniversary, Peroni Gran Reserva has an impressive label and is - to date - the best Italian beer I've tasted. Golden orange clear with a large medium lasting off-white head. Light floral and wood hops aroma with a faint alcohol coming through on warming. Peroni Gran Reserva has a medium to light body with a decent hoppy bitter and fainter lingering roasted malt start and middle. Mild but persistent bitter sweet finish and aftertaste. Alcohol comes through easily after the second mouthful. Overall, a dry malty lager which has more body than the average pilsner, with a sweet malty flavour that really bites. It tastes great with a Mozzarella salad too!
