Bakalar 50cl

Bakalar pours a nice bright, dark gold with a fuzzy cover that lasts and forms chunky lacing. Nose is of grassy Saaz hops and a toasty, slightly burnt malt note. In the mouth it is fairly dry and bitter, with plenty more grassy, vegetal hops that aren't too aggressive. Perhaps a little lemony candy fruitiness from the yeast(?).The toasty flavour of the malt is still present too, perhaps with a touch of caramel. The sweet malty flavour has significant hops flavour mixed in with appropriate bitterness in the balance. Medium carbonation, light to medium body. This lingers into the finish, leaving a predominantly hoppy, bitter aftertaste and a fairly clean palate. A pretty standard but good-quality Czech pilsner-style lager - refreshing, bitter and hoppy yet not excessively so.
