Glen Scotia 12yr has a nose of French apple tart, but made with Granny Smith apples (slightly acidic), and a hint of icing sugar with lemon juice. The nose remains fresh when water is added, joined now by wood shavings and a light vanilla toffee note. The mouthfeel is oily, with an attractive balance - light sweetness, drying to slightly bitter, with a lingering nutty flavour. Sweet tobacco in the development to a long finish, Glen Scotia has always been the poor relation of Springbank, but this new bottling replacing the 14yr puts it back on par
