Arran Malt 10yr Whisky from Scotlands newest distillery was opened in Lochranza on the Island of Arran in 1995. Nose: Delicately scented. Lemony. Semi-dried apricots. Peach in syrup. Hazelnuts. Quite an intricate aromatic build-up. Shortbread developing on creamier notes. Palate: Sweet to start, then a firm maltiness. Lively, light fruits. Effervescent. Real malty sweetness with soft fruits in the centre and balancing oak. Citrussy. Mandarin. Muesli. Finish: Dry, crisp, spicy, chili. Almondy notes. Comment: A subtle yet characterful malt. Sweetness is teased up by dry spices. Beautiful structure. A satisfying everyday malt, a product of which Arran has been blessed.
