Pittyvaich Malt Whisky 1993 bottled 2007. Pittyvaich was mothballed in 1993, and it is unlikely that it will ever produce again. Nose: The colour suggests European oak and the nose is a classic dry amontillado: resin, clove, savoury notes-roasted almond, flamed orange peel, smoked tea, some toffee. Palate: Very sherryish; assertive. Some malty chewiness. Vanilla. Soft, sweet, pear-like fruitiness, moving to a spicy dryness. almond especially. There's perfumed smoke but the spirit is beefed up by heavy oak flavours. Finish: Long but dry. Smoky burnt wood. Smoked cheese. Coffee-biscuit sweetness and mealiness. Comment: The richest by far, but all of it wood-driven. Water releases more pleasant fruitcake notes on the nose
