(Speyside lossie) Coleburn Malt Whisky 1981 70cl
Coleburn Malt Whisky 1981 bottled 2006. Coleburn was mothballed by the present owners in 1985. Much of the original buildings remain but it is unlikely that the distillery will produce whisky again. Nose: Chewy, soft and cuddly. Ovaltine, hot cross bun, coconut, green fruit/olive oil, light smoke, Palate: Fairly dry but attractive mix of chewy malt, nut and light oiliness. Good texture with some white fruit, dry edges and a wisp of smoke running through the centre Creamy. Vegetal, Sweet. Parsnips? Finish; Slightly grassy. With water, a late, sudden, hint of peat. Ginger. Spicy, medicinal. Warming. Soothing. Comment: The best Coleburn I have tasted. I'm glad still to be able to taste a whisky from ths long-gone distillery, One for the collectors.
