(Speyside Central) Benrinnes Malt Whisky 1991 70cl
Bennrinnes Malt Whisky 1991 bottled 2006. The distillery has enjoyed almost continual production with only short breaks for the war years. As a malt it is highly prized by blenders and it's one of the handful of whiskies rated as 1st Class. Nose: Floral. Camomile. Honey. Herbal tea. Rich, oily with a meaty edge. Dubbin. Smoke, fruit and nut and surpisingly fragrant top notes. Palate: Fruity, morello cherries. Fresh, woody, rooty, liquorice? Oily rather than silky texture: then a nutty smoky bite and citrus. A full-blooded, mouth-coating experience, and for all its robust, meaty nature, quite gentle. Finish: Spicy dryness. Comment: Beautifully full flavoured whisky. Manages to be both elegant and robustly expressive. Very appetising. One of Speyside's secret delights. But a hard whisky to know. Big flavours, but tightly combined. Mortlach's little brother and a forgotten classic
