Inverleven Malt Whisky 1990 70cl
Inverleven Malt Whisky 1990. Inverleven was a small malt distillery which was built within the huge Dumbarton grain distillery complex. Production was used for their Ballantine's blends. The two pot-still houses were designed to produce two different malt whiskies - Inverleven and Lomond - while using the same equipment. While neither of the two malts were bottled by the distillery owners, independent bottlings are available like this one. Inverleven was mothballed in 1991 and Dumbarton was closed in 2002. Inverleven was demolished in 2003. Nose: Spirity and ethereally light. Scented garden aromas: wild rose, thyme, lemon grass. Muscat grape and orange peel. More malty and sweet when reduced. Palate: A hot dram at first, but offers immediately a faultlessly clean maltiness .Tastes of cream, nectarines, melons and pears. Soft, stalky and woody. Finish: More of the same. The final notes show a lush richness usually associated with small stills and lots of copper. Slightly spicy (nutmeg), even warmer with water. Light, straightforward. Comment: this is a genuinely fine dram. The star turn is the balance. Delicacy without mannerism. Keep it for a romantic candlelit dinner
