(Northern Highland) Old Pulteney 12 year old Malt Whisky 70cl
Old Pulteney12 year old Malt Whisky, The Distillery lies in the fishing town of Wick and is the northernmost distillery on the Scottish mainland. It was established in 1826. The current owners of Old Pultney is the Inver House company who bought both Balblair and Pulteney distilleries in 1995. The major part of the production is intended for the blends of Inver House: Catton's, Hankey Bannister, MacArthur's and Pinwinnie Royal, and for the Heather Cream whisky liqueur. Nose: Highly perfumed, a heady infusion of sweet bourbony drier herbal notes. Attractively floral with significant oak input. Polished floorboards and a scattering of crushed hazelnut: firm to the point of being rock hard. Palate: Big oak kick dominates over roast malt and spices. Honeydew melon. Orange syrup. Honey roast peanuts. Finish: Sweet vanilla towards finish, some hickory lingers with the oak. Comment: Pretty impressive and singular in style. First-rate bittersweet balance and has lost a lot of character. A complex and distinctive malt.
