Deanston 12yr Malt Whisky. Belonging to the Burn Stewart Group who also own Tobermory & Bunnahabhain. About 15% of the production is marketed as single malt, the remaining being used in blends, among others Scottish Leader, Black Prince and in the Wallace liqueur. Nose: Delicate intertwining of honey and butterscotch with a bite of dry oak. Redeemed, rather unusually, by a sprinkling of crushed rose petals. Palate: Lightly oily. Sweet. Lemon-zest. Lemon-grass. Lightly malty. then a roar of spice, malt and oak in one mad rush. Finish: Sherbet. Lemon-zest again. Grass. Appetising nutty dryness. Comment: More of a Lowland style. If Deanston were regarded as a Lowland distillery, it would score higher.
